Alleluia Shop, a unique gift shop since 1981
Since founding the specialty gift and collectible store at the Southtown Shopping Center in Bloomington over 30 years ago, the Jaegers have indeed learned a thing or two about gifts and retailing. Collectibles such as Precious Moments, Goebel, Hummels, Cherished Teddies, as well as special occasion gifts and jewelry comprise the majority of the merchandise, most of which is inspirational or religious.
Countless offerings of Precious Moments products have been very significant to the Alleluia Shop since the store began. The popular collection of figurines, ornaments and giftware accessories are distinguished by tear-drop eyed children and warm inspirational messages.
Devotees of Precious Moments look to the Alleluia Shop for the latest new introductions, as well as “retired” figurines and hard to find gems. Over the years, the Alleluia Shop has become known as one of the largest authorized dealers. Precious Moments creator and artist, Sam Butcher, has made several promotional visits to the store. Those times proved to be a highlight for dedicated collectors, as well as the staff.
In addition, the Alleluia Shop has hosted numerous other special events, including a visit from a Precious Moments sculptor, Cherished Teddies sculptor, Seraphim Angels artist, Fontanini family members and various authors, as well as others.
During the past 30 years, the store expanded into an adjoining space, moved and expanded again to another space nearby, but more recently moved out of the Southtown Shopping Center. Accompanying this move involved a major shift into more of a mail-order operation, with less retail emphasis.
According to John, the store manager, "We now have a whole new world of possibilities ahead of us. It's true our business is changing, but that's what's necessary in today's changing and challenging business environment. I look forward to serving our existing local customers, while expanding to serve new customers throughout the country, and even throughout the world."
John continues, "The following verse is a favorite of mine and the basis for the store’s logo: 'But those who HOPE in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.' Isaiah 40:31"
